This article by Nick Usborne entitled "Four Things Every Web Site Headline Must Do" is a smart summary and great set of guidelines for any headline. In fact I think it's more than that. I think the points listed would fit nicely under another headline:
Four Things Every Web Page Must Do
This triangulation between readers, search-engines, and marketers (the company) is how I look at the core of web design/development. Those are the three masters you've got to serve.
